Last face to face session December 5, 2009

Hey guys!

So today's class was very eventful we are finally coming to an end and have shown each other our websites that we have created. I was really nervous at first to show my website because i wasn't sure what my classmates were going to think. Also because several of us had the same ideas in mind, but when actually seeing each others presentations we found out that there are many different things that you could do with a website. That maybe one person knows about but not the other. However after my presentation was done i had a lot of positive feedback. Here is some of the feedback:

"Very Cool looking site. I love all the nice links to websites-i will be sure to use Netsmartzkids. Thanks for all the great ideas."

"Your website looks really neat. Great Job! i like that your site is private. It is cool that you can get messages through this site. i like your idea of the slide show of your classroom and class news. you could really use this as another reminder of calendar events, like days off. I can tell you have done a lot with this site."

"Great site and very useful for your parent. i like the look of webs and it is free (to bad it has ads)."

"I really liked how well organized your site was and i really like how your site focuses on parent student interaction. The resources you used were really interesting too! I hope you get really good use out of your website in the future."

"Great website this far. Good content. I like the idea of linking to grades. I like the blog on the page. I was hoping for something like that on mine. I'll look at your site ,ore and see if i have anything else to say."

" Nice thinking to motivate the parents staying on the same page. I loved how you added the useful and relevant videos for the children. The audio-visual way to engage children to their homework or other useful info that they should know is engaging and captivating. I too as a teacher think that these audio visual interaction will stick longer in their head. Liked you project very much."

After viewing every ones comments i found that the things they enjoyed about my website i learned about them or got my ideas from the OTEN conference. Also from the text and class conversations. So my suggestion to all of you would be constantly discuss your ideas with each other because with help form each other we could all do amazing things in the education world. Overall i found this class meeting very helpful for my website and future website ideas. Through this when i become a teacher i could go paperless if i wanted. And i really liked the new templates for PBwiki. If i knew they had those i would have possibly used that for my website. But that just goes to show how often technology changes and how we can help each other through this chaos. Also i enjoyed Krisitins presentation because during the summer i run a summer fun site and it would be very helpful if i had a site where those parents could check what was coming up. Since there are new events coming up everyday. Thanks for the idea Kristin.

As for the question regarding my website about what if a parent does not have access to the internet or to a computer i would send home a flyer in the beginning of the class before i started up on my website to find out who has access and who doesn't. For those that don't have regular access i would send home papers and for those, but at the same time still allow them to be part of the website. (for example if they wanted to see the things on the website such as, pictures, grades, projects, individual progress report, etc. i would still update that information constantly just in case they were able to get online at some point.) Thanks again for all the input and if you have anymore please feel free to let me know.
